This is the most beautiful of all large shells, and its rainbow-colored mother-of-pearl layers shine forth, and because of its beauty it has been used for crafts since ancient times. It was also used as mother-of-pearl work in the treasures of the Shosoin Repository, such as the flat mother-of-pearl back octagonal mirror.
